We had fantastic interest in the adult's and children's workshop with exhibiting artists Nephi Denham and Abe Muriata from Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre facilitating. Girringun AAC supports and represents Aboriginal people from the rainforest of Far North Queensland and are best known for their hand building techniques, and dynamic painted patterns. Nephi instructed the participants on how to hand build birds out of clay which were then also painted. The workshop was a great opportunity for locals to engage with these fantastic artists and gain an understanding of the complexities of working with this material. The exhibition finishes at Gladstone on March 23rd 2019. All images courtesy of Girringun Aborigianl Art Centre & Sabbia Gallery.

Clay Stories travels to the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery in NSW from May to July 2019, then finishes its tour at the Mornington Peninsula Gallery in Victoria running from August to October 2019. All enquiries regarding sales of the works on exhibition to Sabbia Gallery gallery@sabbiagallery.com
